Worldwide Success for Balthasar Ress
Number One at Blind Tasting in Canada
At a blind tasting of 2001 Riesling Kabinett wines at the Toronto Vintners Club in May, Weingut Balthasar Ress's Hattenheimer Schützenhaus Riesling Kabinett received the highest number of points. Canada's only Master of Wine, Igor Ryjenkov, conducted the tasting, which was held under the auspices of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario and the information service of the Deutsches Weininstitut (DWI, or German Wine Institute). Balthasar Ress Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese wines have also always fared well at other tastings organized by the DWI in the past.
Asia on the Horizon
Asian interest in German wines is growing, whereby drier German Rieslings are setting a new trend. Weingut Balthasar Ress has also noticed this and reports that in the meantime, Asian markets account for 20% of its export sales. China, for example, is currently discovering the quality of German Riesling wines. When the renowned Intercontinental Hotel Grand Stanford in Hong Kong recently organized a culinary week with Michelin-star chef Gerd Eis from the "Ente," in Wiesbaden's Hotel Nassauer Hof, and Weingut Balthasar Ress, wine lovers in the Far East were thoroughly convinced of the harmony of wine and food.
Success in England
Balthasar Ress's 2003 Riesling "Von Unserm" placed well at a tasting organized by the British wine magazine "Wine International" - it was awarded 91 (of 100) points.
